Joining Samsung

Is joining Samsung a good idea right now with the current economic situation? Are there any layoff planned? @samsung

IBM mdbdbdb Apr 16, 2023

They’re opening a semiconductor plant in Taylor and so will be hiring a ton from what I know.

Microsoft 📎 ChatNvnt Apr 16, 2023

I don’t know but they seem to be hiring. I get a lot of spam. Usually for Austin and not remote. I don’t live in Austin.

Intel blinded421 OP Apr 16, 2023

But I do wonder if a role is not fab related or in Austin

Samsung lfD41j Apr 16, 2023

I went from Intel to Samsung. Feel free to ask me anything.

Intel engnrZuko Apr 17, 2023

What is it like? In terms of wlb, job security and technical expertise amongst your peers at samsung?

Samsung lfD41j Apr 17, 2023

Pretty good so far. WLB is about what I had at Intel. The expertise is pretty good, but I mostly interact with Korea and the Montreal AI team. Some of the others I've interacted with are a little bullshitty, but overall the Korean teams and AI teams seem quite strong.

Offer details?

Samsung sad boi 💧 Apr 20, 2023

Joined during the pandemic, haven’t heard of layoffs since or anything upcoming. We’ve been actively hiring, and reports show Samsung is much more stable than competitors in the current situation

Samsung lfD41j Apr 20, 2023

They did a 3% layoff just a few months back and our profits are down 96%....

Samsung lfD41j Apr 20, 2023

Okay, hiring freezes and small scale layoffs for low performers doesn't make Samsung a horrible company.

AMD azn1 Apr 22, 2023

How did you get 2 offers in this situation? Both samsung and Nvidia? Which orgs are hiring?

Intel blinded421 OP Apr 26, 2023

There are open roles at both companies.

Intel slif66 Apr 26, 2023

Heard they have stopped sponsoring, atleast SAS

Samsung peace ☮️ Apr 26, 2023

Wrong, we are hiring and still sponsoring
