I recently got contacted by four different recruiters trying to fill positions in tier 3 cities with required days in office Credit Karma - Charlotte, NC FiServ - Milwaukee, Wis Podium - Lehi Utah Target - Minneapolis, mn I can kind of understand the request of RTO in NYC and SF, maybe even LA and Seattle, but how can any leadership expect to acquire real talent in the middle of nowhere? These companies aren’t paying FAANG salary either. Can cost of living reduction justify leaving tech centers of the United States? Seems like a losing strategy that will keep 10x people out of your company.
Yes but you’re #ReadyToWork
I start a new gig in a week
Lehi is a pretty boring suburb, but Salt Lake City half an hour north is really nice. Plenty of tech jobs in the area too.
Charlotte is pretty fucking nice
Yeah, but where do you go after growth stagnates at credit karma? Food Lion, NASCAR? There’s no advantage being early to a city before the jobs are there
I think despite of all of the talk of jumping ship every 2-4 yrs, a lot of people still just stay at the same company for decades. Especially if you live in a city that's not career-oriented
