Seeking Advice: Offer Selection BofA vs OCC

Current TC: 35k YoE: 1.5 I’m currently torn between 2 offers. I was trained in ServiceNow and I’ve been a ServiceNow dev since. BofA TC: ~95k Role: Software Engineer I OCC TC: 95k + 10% yrly bonus + 5k sign on bonus Role: ITOM discovery, CMDB admin I’m torn between. BofA will be hourly wage, but not ServiceNow related. Both benefits are similar. Should I stay with ServiceNow or should I venture out to other domains with BofA. If you worked for one of the companies. How was your experience? Thank you so much in advance. #Tia #BofA #occ #software engineer #servicenow

Is 35k a typo? That said, best to be a regular software engineer. It gives more options down the line.

No. Not a typo. 🥲

I would suggest, get exposure to everything at start of carrier, don't stick to 1. Learn, be curious until you become senior and then relax. Why do you want to be only service now dev?

As someone trying to change from Salesforce dev to software engineering… be careful about putting yourself in a hole. Job is easier but much lower ceiling in terms of pay, job prospects, and cool projects.

Please tell me more. Are you facing any obstacle trying to switch over? I stumbled on the SWE role with BofA … originally interviewed and did project for data analyst and they decided to place me in SWE.

Vonage isVH33 Jul 18, 2022

I’m getting interviews as a software engineer but because I haven’t had challenging tasks at work I’m constantly failing the interviews. However I’m switching at my current company.

OCC fOYl12 Jul 17, 2022

OCC is good and maturing a lot towards tech company. You may like the work too but BOFA is big compares to OCC and it might have some defined process and procedures setup already. OCC benefits are really good too 👍

I would go for BofA for a few reasons. More recognizable name and sounds like a more general SWE role. OCC if you specifically want to specialize in servicenow or want the domain experience in OCC. both reasons would be specializing IMO which I wouldn’t recommend early in your career.

Software Engineer I >>> letter soup job

Hourly = overtime pay 👌

OCC rxjava Jul 18, 2022

If you want a career suicide then yes go ahead join OCC. It is light-years away from maturing into a tech company and the work culture is toxic. You will find a better life outside of OCC even with lesser comp. You'll probably get better benefits working for a tier three consulting firm. BoFA is a clear choice given the position and the work you'll get exposed to.

First and foremost, congratulations! That’s a huge TC bump, either way! Great job! To me, BoA is the clear right mid- to long-term move. But I’ve never encountered an hourly FTE SE I at BoA. Is it a role though a contract labor agency or directly with BoA? Was the job listed and applied for on BoA Careers? This might sway my decision, if it were me.

Infosys jojonesle OP Jul 19, 2022

It was directly with BoA. And applied in the boa’s workday page. I triple confirmed with recruiter … cause it is strange …

We do have it for lower band roles such as college hires, though OP’s offer seems a little bit higher. I think around 100k is where they switch to a salaried role.
