Recently moved from Los Angeles to Richmond, Virginia. Changed jobs from working at Medtronic as a contractor (no benefits at all) to now working at Dominion Energy. I finished my Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering and now working in an Electrical Engineering role at Dominion. My TC is broken down into the following: Base - 75K Sign-on Bonus - 5K Performance Bonus - 6K 401K matching - 8% (which ends up being about another 6K) The learning curve of changing from chemical engineering to electrical engineering has been quite steep, is it worth it sticking it out and learning a whole new profession like I am now, or should I try to go back? I feel like it’s valuable to be learning a whole new speciality, but it can be overwhelming. Thank you for any advice! YOE: 2 TC: ~92K
I think you’ll find your ~$92K going A Lot Farther in Richmond VA than in LA. You’ve upgraded from survival to actually able to live a bit.
