Growing up as an Asian immigrant I feel like I was sold on the whole idea that google is the ultimate job to have and working at google has always been the dream. I got an offer before and got downleveled to an L3, I just got my L5 offer and am honestly pretty disappointed with it as well. I like my current job and have minimal to no complaints, im on the path to promotion and can expect one in the next 6 months or so. Given all this I'm hesitant to quit and start afresh. I've done consulting before and know it comes with a bad wlb so I'm nervous about that as well. I thought all of these risks might be worth it for a decent pay bump but Google won't budge on the salary and I feel it's pretty low thoughts overall? Is google worth it? Is it all hype? Offer: Base: 177 Stock: 175 (front loaded) Bonus: 15% Signing: 9 Total: 279 first year Current: Base: 220 Stock:40(even split) Bonus: 15% Total: 263, just completed my second year YOE: 6
If things are good at your current place, stay there..market is bad
Did you negotiate with Google.? Is negotiation on the table..? If so ask them to match your base ?
I did and they said they're capped out on base sadly. This is my offer after 3 rounds of negotiation
They didnt want to budge on anything else? Not even sign on?
Senior engineer at 280k?.... something wrong here...
Not an engineer! Security consulting
Why did you interview in the first place if you’re satisfied with your current position?
The whole dream company thing and I don't think there's anything wrong with interviewing every once in a while
Are you LMTS or PMTS?
I would pass on G
Mandiant is gonna blend more with main GCP next year so retry at that time after promo at SFDC
Yeah this is honestly what I'm leaning towards
can i pm you?? 🥲🥲

Lasik cost
Google isn't what it used to be, but obviously you should feel free to take a pay cut for "prestige"
I mean it's not necessarily a pay cut, but more so is the few k increase worth the risks that come with a new job (I.e building credibility from scratch)
On the path to promotion pay difference of like 15k? Unless you think the brand will do that much more for your resume/opportunity has that much more growth... I'd personally consider it a pay cut.
