I am currently job searching and was wondering if there are any openings at Riot Games for mid/entry level SWE. I am a big Riot fanatic and it would be awesome to explore such opportunities. #riotgames #engineering #software
Not to dissuade you, do what you like, but be aware that the games industry pays less, has worse benefits, and has much much worse work life balance than other software companies. They exploit employees’ passion for games for cheaper labor and more hours. Also, I don’t know if Riot has done this but there have been a lot of layoffs and studio closures in this past year. Again, do whatever you like. You may find a job there and love it, but it’s worth giving a heads up.
Comp might be lower but if you actually enjoy the games Riot makes its actually quite enjoyable working there. I liked my time there and actually picked it over a few tech companies. Coworkers were also from large tech companies too. Overall I had no regrets joining.
Riot actually pays decently compared to other gaming companies
Did you try like, looking at riot games website, just a thought?!
This. Riot is extremely good at listing all the available jobs at our careers website. WYSIWYG
Nothing there besides staff engineer roles
Because everyone seems to be putting advice in responses to my comment, OP here is some info You kind of just apply to a spot you might be a fit for lol (the careers page is pretty comprehensive), its like most other companies. You could also ask on Blind for a referral but generally most people wouldn't (and can't really) put in a good name for you without knowing you personally. Theres also the intern program (which I did, it was very fun!) which is the main vector for hiring more junior candidates, but not sure if OP is in that bucket. IIRC external entry level hires are fairly rare, and theres no official new grad pipeline (its mostly/only intern conversions). Right now it seems like SWE roles skew mostly to senior+.
thanks for reposting my comment lol
As far as I know we only have senior and higher positions right now, there's an unofficial hiring freeze at the moment as well. We do hire mid SWEs during normal times, but we haven't hired entry level engineers that weren't returning interns in many years
even returninig interns don't get re hired due to the freeze :( (was an intern this summer)
