Why Israel Feels Wronged
I know it sounds silly, but I honestly need help. I am a contractor at Meta and I have been here for 3 years (very much looking for better opportunities) and I earn $76k in the Bay Area as a contractor in a skilled role with a masters degree (prestigious MBA). My contract vendor provides us with horrendous benefits -- ie my coworkers have said Medicare give better benefits. My problem: I need my impacted wisdom teeth to be removed by a maxiofacial surgeon because they are troubling all my other teeth. It was suggested back in 2022, but it's only getting worse. Of course my insurance won't cover any of it, I have to make partial payments for dental checkups as it is and as per a few surgeons estimates I will need to spend around $20k for the removal of the 4 wisdom teeth. I am also paying off my student loans and have a very frugal lifestyle -- there's no margin for me to afford such an expensive procedure. I don't want to expose myself in the GoFundMe post hence I am asking if it would even work. On the other hand, Meta. You need to get rid of some vendors or do some sort of audits on them a <$2 per hour salary increase over the course of 2 years is ridiculous. I really wish you would convert high achieveing contractors. Even making this post is breaking my heart. YOE: 5
Sorry you're facing this. How do you know your insurance won't pay? Is there an appeals process? Can you get your surgeon to contact your insurance to argue necessity?
I have gone through a few rounds of calls and tried an appeals process but it does not seem likely. When I was shopping around for surgeons they clearly did not seem too willing of my case after looking at my insurance plan. Itβs more about the money for them than the patients health. π
Got it π
You need a better job instead of gofundme. A lot of people in much worse conditions than you.
OP, I suggest finding another job and moving to MCOL or LCOL place. If you have an MBA from prestigious school (Wharton, HBS, etc.), try to leverage on your network to get a job. 100K+ should be straightforward in my opinion in US.
Register a business, then get a business credit card. about 50k limit. How you going to pay it back is another story
You can fly to a third world country, get all 4 WT extracted and come back within 2 weeks for maybe 3-5 grand. But I'm happy to donate my part to your GoFundMe, if it helps you reach your goal.
Tbh I was thinking of that too! I will research a bit more on this. Thank you π
This βπ½. OP, third world countries have it cheap. Extracting a wisdom tooth wonβt cost much. Fly either to cheap side of Europe (Portugal/Spain) or Mexico.
