Interesting survey. Worker satisfaction is at an all time low. Makes sense and it isn't because of HR seminars or "bringing your whole self to work." It is because the US labor market has reverted back to 1890. Poor salaries which can't even sustain a family for most jobs, no control over your workplace, no job security, few unions. I wonder how much longer peoples' lives can keep getting materially worse and be placated by elitists telling them that is only way of doing things. https://www.cnbc.com/2022/08/12/job-unhappiness-is-at-a-staggering-all-time-high-according-to-gallup.html TC - $270k
A lot of the actions of the super wealthy to rent seek and do anything they can to prevent wealth accumulation by most of the population will bite them in the ass. It's a lot easier to get the masses on board with wealth redistribution when most of the population has no wealth to be redistributed. Republicans are wrong when they say that LGBTQ acceptance, teaching critical race theory, and Obamacare are going to lead America to socialism. Turning America into a nation of renters living paycheck to paycheck will do that instead.
Equality of opportunity is very different from equality of outcomes. Ensure equal opportunities and let people keep what they earn. Why should someone who saved, invested, and passed on short term gratification have to pay for the consequences of someone else's bad choices? The welfare state printing money to "solve inflation" ie buy votes and pay the already rich is where we're at now, and it's going to get worse. With food shortages already happening, they're doubling down on canceling farmers and truckers. Quit voting for idiots who clearly do not have society's best interests in mind.
How do I get an equal opportunity with Bill Gates son? How does someone who grew up in poverty get an equal opportunity with me?... Unless you are proposing a radically new system where families are abolished and children are raised collectively with a 100% death tax, so we can get everyone to an equal starting line, talking about equality of opportunity is just saying you don't want to change anything.
You're looking for some idealized starting point which has never existed in human history, and will never exist. In the western industrialized world, even the poorest has the opportunity to improve their lives through hard work. The fact is that people are different. Some are better at certain things than others, but everyone has the opportunity to work hard and overcome obstacles. You're taking the exception (the super rich kid) and trying to make a rule out of it. If you really believe in taking from the rich to give to the poor, why are you here on blind? Shouldn't you be giving your top 1% TC away and only keeping the median salary? Or is it only up to "someone else" to pay for your altruistic beliefs?
