I've been a PM in the DC area with over 12 years of experience. I've done PMO, Infrastructure, O&M, and mainly Software Development work. I'm relocating to the Bay and honestly thought it wouldn't be as difficult to get hired as a female in the tech industry out West. I'm constantly getting contacted by recruiters asking to submit me for positions but nothing ever happens. I'm coming from @ServiceNow background and still nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Were you doing a lot of government based PM work at DC?
Yes almost exclusively (on the contracting side)
So I found that there is a mindset shift from government to private high tech sector. My experience has been that "government is by the book" even if that process makes zero sense in the context of the project or program. Where as private high tech sectors wants process but just enough process to help with economy of scale and repeatable success. Not sure if this mindset shift would help you in your future interviews.
It's easy once you have direct PM experience in Bay area
Supply and demand. I think there are a lot more PMs than there are roles for it.
