33yo, 8yoe, 6 in FAANG Single, no kids 400k in saving and checking accounts, most in HYSA 100k in 401k 350k stock (from compensation) Most posts I saw here have at least double of my NW. What I did wrong: 1. Did not invest smartly, miss all the gains other people made on TSLA, NVDA, AAPL, MSFT, etc. Did not buy them initially, and then I thought the price was too high…. 2. Did not invest in ETF 3. Did not buy real estate, still rent, miss appreciation 4. Got most of my stock rewards at all time high. My initial 4year grant was only 70k when I started at Amazon. 5. Invested in stock in 2020, 2021, lost money on NIO, BABA, JD… 6. Did not max out in 401k. Basically, my NW came from living frugally, 2k monthly rent, 1.5k monthly expense, 10k travel and 10k gifts to parents per year Looking for investment advice, should I buy QQQ when it is near all time high?
You’re fine, take it slow. Not maxing my 401k either and have some better in the market. Never liked the idea of locking up funds. I’m crazy though and live for the now. Forget investing and reward yourself a little. Have fun now, not later.
Hindsight is always 20/20. I got lucky with msft, maybe it might not have paid off too. The best time to invest is now. Time in market is better than timing the market
You should move 200k out of savings to your stock account, and get a financial advisor. Charles Scwab is great , also you should be diversifying your stocks if not already
lol 800k and you feel poor, you realize over half the country has zero savings?
He just feels poor after he compares himself with other unknown people on blind who have higher net worth. Typical Indian mentality. People are taught to compete with each other.
I’m at 650k age 33 and feel like shit seeing this dudes post. God I hate this app.
Is your HYSA at 5% ? If not at least put it in a Money market fund like SWVXX. Also if you want to catch the last wave of the bull run get into Russell 2000 (IWF and IWL), though at 52 week high they are likely to run 20-40% in 2024 if rate cuts are real
Why would you pay 0.19 expense ratio on iwf / iwl and not just go with vug or qqq
I am 33 with 750k networth. I lost 200k in stocks all time and gained 50k. You could be me if you took risks and lose. So if you don’t wanna take risk you should just buy index funds instead of stocks. I have 100k in individual stocks. But that won’t beat having 400k in qqq from jan 2022
Just buy VOO or VTI with all of your cash and stop gambling on individual stocks
You have to invest but do so in a more conventional way - buy vti , bonds , money market , invest some money in speculation but not all and slowly diversify .
Please keep living frugally
