How come NASA/SpaceX stuff isn’t discussed here? There’s plenty of talk about FAANG and even 2/3 tier private companies. But I feel NASA is same or even higher tier than FAANG? They are primarily a tech company. Arguably the most interesting tech. Similar for SpaceX. I know many of y’all are on H1B and are ineligible for hire for NASA/SpaceX, but still.

Question about women in their 30’s?
Not nearly enough
I worked for LM space and it's not as high tech as you'd imagine. Rocketry hasn't changed much since the 60s, with most of the innovation coming in the fight control systems. I actually transferred to another division because space was kind of boring
Does this apply to spacex?
From what I've read about SpaceX, they do most of everything in one giant hangar. I think as an engineer, seeing all that might make a difference. And they're clearly pushing the envelope, doing launches all the time. Probably more exciting to work there than the other major defense contractors, but I've also heard it's not a great place to work
It tells you more about the demographics of Blind than of NASA/SpaceX. We don't have enough representation from the scientific community either. Blind is commonly-used-technology-centric.
Whenever I post as Boeing everybody assumes I’m a shit-tier software developer there and not an engineer lol
Many people don't appreciate the fact that most jobs do not pay according to a worker's knowledge or training.
Do you see many posts here about how interesting people find their work? I don't. Most posts are a direct or indirect dick-measuring contest exemplified by the "TC or GTFO" rule. For better or worse, most discussion on this forum is focused on the amount of money a person earns and in my cases, that is used to validate the quality of the person. So the NASA/SpaceX stuff isn't discussed here, because the forum is quite filled with folks obsessed with TC and the prestige of their company. These aren't the people that would ever consider working at these other places because the primary gauge of a person's worth here is TC. All that said, I wholeheartedly believe that working at a cool lab in NASA is definitely higher tier than being a foot-soldier, replaceable code monkey!
Totally agree
TC or GTFO
Blind considers TikTok more tier 1 than nasa. That tells you things doesn’t it. The prestige you see here? It has nothing to do with doing things cool or making lives better. That’s a lie we tell ourselves. It’s all about money and how competitive the interview process is. If McDonald’s burger flipping paid more than fb and interview was tough, these guys would flock to make burgers.
Hhahaha that shit made me laugh
Roflmao
Almost most of people here on blinds are talking about immigration status that means they are not citizens... NASA and spacex needs citizenship for most of position because of nature of works and security clearances. Plus many of the people on blind do Leetcode and cracks FAANG interview doesn't mean that they all are smart..
It sounds like you have a severe misunderstanding of what each of these five companies have in common, I.e. why the acronym is “FAANG” over anything else.
This ^^^
No, he is saying that FAANG companies and other Tier 2/3 companies are discussed a lot more than NASA, which is objectively true irrespective of whether FAANG terminology came from Wall Street or wherever
😂 Hard to know anything about the tiers now. Snapchat pays the highest TC but not tier 1. NASA/JPL has more prestige but also not tier 1. I’m starting to think the tiers is based on scaled impact and brand recognition of the company.
I worked 2 yrs in the aerospace and I can say that there’s a lot of legacy platforms in the aerospace and it’s not as high-tech as people think.
Yeah, they can't be using agile and winging it. If it works, it works well. Certain industries are slow to move, and I appreciate that they do not upgrade their software like web-based services would.
How much do they pay?
Not bad, but there’s more to life than TC
Like what?
