Recently I have been offered the role of ML Scientist III at Expedia Group. Can you blinders please help me decide if this is a decent TC for Seattle or is there a room for negotiation? I have asked them to raise base since it's already near 170k in my current role. Offered TC: 275k Base:175k Signing up RSU: 200k over 4 years Sign on cash : 35k Relocation: 15k Current TC: 215k with 10 yoe (5 year as ML Researcher) Current location: San Diego #seattle #expedia #expediasalary #microsoft
This is a really solid offer
If you hadn't already asked for more base, I would say you could probably ask for 200k. But you'll have room to grow which is not a bad thing. And your RSUs are solid.
I have asked them for 200k base but HR is not positive that HM would agree with this. Still I asked her to check if in case he agrees. How likely it is to get promoted to M from L by next promo cycle given I have prior 5+ years of relavent experience?
Oh sorry, I forgot that a III is a level L. 175 base is quite good; it is above average and in alignment with what most new hires are getting. Promo depends on a lot of things. Obviously a big factor is your performance, but sometimes teams are given more or less promo budget, so there's a chance it could take you a long time to get promoted if the budget just isn't there. IMO a lot of folks on the data science teams don't stick around for more than 2-3 years, probably because they get a better offer elsewhere. I'd take the job regardless of whether you get the $200k base and if you find something else later, take it. Welcome to EG!
Never seen RSUs that high at that level. Wow. Our most recent hire at that level got 25k/4 RSUs.
Very good offer for Expedia but pretty role for ML scientists in general
I have Ms making less, great job negotiating!
that is great offer for tech L (but maybe ML gets paid more in general)
@op- I will be interviewing to similar role. Can I dm’ee you? Thanks!!
That's a sweet deal imo
