Do I take a business development role at salesforce with OTE of $80k or an Account Executive role else where with an OTE of $111k#ae #enterprise #sales I have one year of prior BDR experience at a top cloud software company
I work at Salesforce as a mid-market AE - take the guaranteed AE offer. I have friends on the BDR side and they're looking at 5 years minimum to get to mid-market. Salesforce doesn't let you 'skip' levels, so coming in as BDR is this path: BDR - SMB AE - Growth AE - Mid-Market AE - GB AE - Enterprise AE, with more than a year at each step, and that's assuming you hit all your numbers and never miss. The move is to get AE experience, then 2-3 years later jump to Salesforce and skip all the 'paying your dues' bs. Salesforce BDR is also an absolute grind, whereas AE roles get easier the higher up market you go. Ideally, you would come in at least MM, but I would even say try and come in at GB after you kill it somewhere else
Sfdc too slow to promote unless your always #1. Go get the AE job at a startup ...you won’t want to go corporate again unless you have a massive mortgage payment and a village of kids.
I’d probably take the job elsewhere (unless it wasn’t a promising looking company). Just because it takes so long for BDR’s to move to sales at SF. Promotions are very tenured based, rather than on performance. We just got acquired in the last year and are seeing that philosophy being implemented at my org now which is frustrating. You could probably go further and make more $ at another org
