I did mech to swe without a degree or any cert, just did free online tutorials and some 10 dollar udemy classes. I eventually landed a job at a crappy startup that had use for someone with both coding and mech skills. I took advantage to get as much coding experience as possible for a few years and then got a job at a real tech company
Honestly, imo all the top Data Scientists i see have either have strong academic backgrounds/PhDs or extensive experience. Data Engineer/Analyst would be a much easier transition
I was a mechanical engineer and am now a SWE. I took about 4 core classes in undergrad for CS and then one grad level course. Got a referral, leetcoded hard, and got the offer.
Hey there, my friend is in a similar position. He is a mechanical engineer and trying to make a move into tech. Could i please DM you to get some advice
Very tough and lot of competition, better pursue degree
Like GT OMSCS? Or go back for bachelor’s in CS?
In analytics ... not CS
