Lyft - you lost all respect today, 13% layoff

Just heard from multiple friends about Lyft firing 13% of employees. Some of them were top performers whose EMs, skip, and multiple VPs fought to retain. One was up for promo and clearly exceeding expectations, and apparently not even the EM or skip were consulted ahead of time or agreed. It seems performance was not used as a criteria, so Lyft is now a case-study for Dead Sea Effect and poor decisions. As a fellow engineer, I vow never to interview there and use only Uber. If you were impacted, I hope it's a blessing in disguise. More details: * 10 week severance package * Early vesting from next period * Early signs from Ride Share group that didn't rule out layoffs. Code freeze the week of Halloween indicative that they wanted stability in the code base well before 2 weeks ago TC 320K (used to be 450K recently). 12 YOE

That's how layoffs work .. entire teams are cut. Plus it helps to avoid any lawsuits because of appearance of discrimination

That's how cost cutting works unfortunately.. top performers get paid thr highest amount in the team and will be usually the first ones to let go during recession..

Layoffs are not performance related. You should lose respect for companies that use regular PIP (*cough* PSC *cough*) in lieu of layoffs
