While I was going through my job search, there were many posts I read on this app of people with 5+ offers and TC over $500K, bragging about how easy interviewing is. I very seldom read posts from those who failed at interviews, or had one offer they weren't really interested in. That's why I'm writing this post - even though I did end up with an offer I am happy with, I want to broadcast a more realistic view of a job hunt in 2022 (even though with a recession looming, this might not be the best time for such a post). To start: Original TC/Salary: $92K YOE: 3 I wasn't looking for a job until a Google recruiter reached out to me through LinkedIn and that's when I started LeetCoding, around mid-March. Practiced from that point until early May when my Google on-site was. Within the week of the Google recruiter messaging me, I had received messages from recruiters at multiple startups, Amazon (4 times), Microsoft, Capital One, American Express, and Bloomberg. I also had referrals from friends to Twitch & MailChimp, but both of those went nowhere. I only actually was interested in interviewing at American Express, Capital One, Microsoft, and Google (really was not interested in working at Amazon) I passed all screenings for those 4 companies. I completely bombed my first on-site with Capital One and almost debated hanging up on the interviewer because I had no chance (it was an LC Easy too). I thought I passed the Google on-site next surprisingly, and the same with AmEx. Was iffy about Microsoft. Ultimately ended up with offers from Microsoft & American Express, although AmEx wasn't really super competitive with the market. I accepted the Microsoft offer after some light negotiation (another area where I had no idea what I was doing). Offer: Salary: $147K RSUs: $30K/yr for 4 years Sign-On: $17.5K for Y1, $17.5K for Y2 New TC: $192.5K
