Is this how it works in the corporate world: the manager wants to please his manager, who in turn wants to please the director. So when a front end engineer was asked to run a backend script for another backend engineer who went onto PTO during critical times (for who knows what reason), and the script failed to run, the front end engineer was blamed for it big time, and the manager wanted to let him go (fire him) because "the front end engineer doesn't know how to fix backend stuff". Well, the manager just hired him 2 weeks ago, and on his resume, his objective is: Web Front End developer. He never said he is backend. And he just joined for 2 weeks. What do you expect? So no matter how unfair, the manager wants to let him go, to please his manager, and in turn just want to please the director, because all their bonus, stock grant, is decided by the director. So it is like, 7 or 8 managers all want to kiss ass to the director, and will do things no matter how unfair it is. And then, when the director decided to semi retire because he has a bit of savings and decide not to go into the high tech world for at least 10 or 15 years, now he all of a sudden is a "nobody". Like those 7 or 8 people who all act like dogs, will all of a sudden treat the director like he is a piece of stone at the side of a road. Not even worth a second of attention. This is usually how the corporate world works, right? TC 390k
I can read the words in this post but have no idea what it is saying. 🤷♂️
TLDR : people fawning like dogs to make director happy, but director decided to leave and now these dogs treat him like a nobody.
I just posted it for 3 minutes and obviously 14 people who voted can understand it
They’re sucking up to what the position represents and not the actual person itself. Some leaders command respect for who they are, while others for what they are.
Bro, what the fk is this convoluted sht. Tidy it up a bit
I see a pattern. People who cannot understand it, usually works for Goldman, Bloomberg, or Moody's
Please accept the feedback with grace and do the needful
You’re talking like how my co-worker talks after 4 rounds of scotch
so drink some scotch too and you will understand it.
Yeah couldn’t follow any of this
my mother always says "as long as you have jaggery, you see ants stay beside you.. once you are out of jaggery, ants wont even bother about you.."
that sounds about right. There also is a phrase "once the royal official retire from his position, outside his home's front door, birds can be picking up food or worms all day and nobody will step near it. But before that royal official retires, the front door has so much traffic about people sending in gifts, and people visiting to 'build the bond' and be friend with the state official."
long ass phrase lmfao you sure it’s legit?
Night night time Raj
How does firing that person pleasing director?
because the manager thinks: "oh we have a single point of failure, and it looked bad because the script failed to run and the front end engineer cannot fix it and it looked so bad in front of another manager who may report to the director. The other backend engineer is more like a full stack person, so there is no 'single point of failure'. Well, so they fired the front end person and is bringing into another full stack person". But why did you hire the front end person in the first place? His resume clearly says he is a front end person, and he gave up another offer just to join you. And now you fire him in such an unfair way.
People are motivated by power. There is no altruism in this world.
I suppose money, power, benefits. It is like extreme selfishness and it is like a rotten world.
English please
On average in the corporate world people only care about the people that have power over them or that they need support from/depend on.
that sounds about right. Now I wonder all the people I see who "make it to the top" are the people who kiss up. What a disappointing situation.
Not all of them kiss up. There are talented ones too. At some point, leadership has to take accountability for results.. All depends on your org and leadership team.
