I have recently accepted an offer with Amazon as an iOS developer located in Seattle. I currently live in an area with no other opportunities for iOS dev. So if something ever happens to my current job, we would have to move. My family loves where we currently live. We all flew to Seattle for my interview and everyone really enjoyed their time. Everyone is onboard with moving. However, I'm kind of nervous about working at a FAANG. I was hired in as a SDE2 and I'm having imposter syndrome. I thought everyone I talked to during my interview was smarter than me and I don't see myself on their level. I just like software development which has helped me pick up a lot of skills that helped me land the job. I'm hoping that I can overcome any short coming with hard work and grit. Any advice?
Just trust the judgement of the people who interviewed you and decided on the fact that you are the right fit. On a practical note, first 6 months will be crucial. Consider it as a long interview and keep doing your best in the initial timeframe. Over time, you’ll be much for confident. Then look for promotion and/or interview around to do greater things!
You'll be fine. High percentage of people half imposter syndrome coming to FAANG.
Focus on the actions that will make you succeed. You may or may not succeed, for several reasons, some outside of your control, but you'll do your best and stand tall. And everyday do a retrospective and learn from your experience. You can even do this after every time you try something. That will keep you learning. Good luck!
Nice response. You're true to your name 👍
It is ok, you will feel that you are also a human like them in a month. In a year you will feel you are as smart as them. In two years you will think they are all idiots. In five years you will feel you are the smartest man in the entire galaxy. I am sure you already see the pattern for the rest
This is really funny (and very true)
And then you become a singularity.
Let me tell u something. All the companies i've worked at, it's like "i'm stupid" -> "we are all smart" -> "everyone but me is stupid" -> "i'm a genius" -> "ready to find new job"
Why not just say amazon. Does it feel better to say Faang?
Short answer: Yes
Long answer:
I flew from across the globe with similar apprehensions. 15 years and still alive. You will be fine.
