Just finished Microsoft online assessment. This time I did poorly. I had done twice before this one and the previous ones were 100%. I failed both onsite interviews however. The first onsite was my bad. The 2nd one I did vey well and still don't know why I didn't get an offer. It was also a team in an org I really really want to join. Feeling sad and stupid for accepting C1's offer and being stuck in the current situation. Got into a bad team and on my way to dev plan that's why I'm interviewing. Lately I haven't had much rest or sleep due to reasons I can't control. I notice that my LeetCode performance has dropped. Not all interviews or online assessments are the same but this time it just makes me feel sad and stupid. I left a low pay but excellent WLB job. I only have Amazon onsite lining but it's the same cut-throat culture. I've applied for a bunch of mid size companies with good WLB but got rejected. I don't know why I can't get attention from companies with good WLB. I guess folks working there don't often leave or get fired, only the ones with URA have lots of openings. People keep getting offers left and right and I'm just struggling. Feeling sad. I really want to join Microsoft. I know I need to keep grinding but can't help but feeling stupid and sad. It's just Thursday... #swe #microsoft
How do you know you didn’t get Microsoft offer? Did they tell you or just haven’t heard from them yet? I heard sometimes they are slow
I scored low. Last time I scored this low, Tesla didn't interview me. Given the market at this time, there's plenty of fish in the sea. I'd be surprised if they invited me to an onsite given the low score.
wanna get pip'd?
No, sir. Rejected Amazon's offer before. But a job is better than no job I guess?
so u stayed at Capital one 😂..damn too much blind influence. You might find the entire team at msft is folks from amzn, what's the plan then?
Plenty opportunities other than Microsoft. Why so much emphasis on good wlb? Try Shopify
Family responsibilities. Need good wlb. If the WLB is good there, care to refer me?
It's good. Apply yourself, too lazy to make referral $
They dev plan at Cap one???
Yep. PIP like Amazon. They copy Amazon on everything, just smaller scale.
That's so weird. Is that new? Had a few friends who used to work there and they would work 10-3 and didn't have to do much of anything
Try finance shops or fintech. Arcesium, De Shaw, AQR and two sigma have decent wlb depending on the team of course but good overall. Tapad and TikTok are decent too.
Uhh if he’s not getting callbacks from mid tier and not doing well for Microsoft, he should prob set his sights more on like an ibm or smth
I probably can’t crack Two Sigma. Looking for Bloomberg and such. I did get offers from some (including Amazon) but at the moment I need good wlb.
I don’t know why people would want to work at C1. Backstabbing culture and not enough pay to make up for it
People who enjoy it, maybe? I consider that I made a mistake.
Presonally had offers from C1 and MSFT took MSFT. Can't believe C1 pips sorry to hear. As far as MSFT, there is not cool down so you can interview every month until you get offer.
Know any PMs at Microsoft? Do they like their jobs? Curious how they compare to Goog or FB
Yeah. Technically I can interview every month but I don't have interest from them every month. Congratulations on your MS offer though. You made the right choice.
I thought capital 1 had pretty good wlb?
That’s what I thought too. Bad team I guess. Lots of people have been leaving. The good wlb now seems like an old myth.
OP I know it’s hard but keep going. I can relate on some notes. Send me a DM if you want a referral or if you just wanna talk.
Thanks. Sent you a message.
Curious what was the question and how did you approach it.
Can't really describe it but I wasted too much time on the 1st question. Although I did have plenty of time for the 2nd one, I wasted time on writing comments and tried to optimize the solution without checking to make sure my naive solution passes all cases. The solution ended up failing half of the cases. I know I could've done better.
Don't do early optimization especially in coding interview. Plan, describe your solution, verify with interviewer before coding, test and optimize if asked. Make it conversational increase your chances of passing
