Thousands of new grads with AI/ML fancy projects in their resume Thousands of YouTube videos on ML frameworks and MLOps Fresh PhDs with 3B1B style explanations Hundreds of entry level engineers with at least one ML project in their resume DS are dozen a dime Should an SWE even try to pivot to AI/ML? #tech #ai
I did my focus on ML/AI in undergrad but wouldnt feel confident gunning for those roles. I feel good about the things Ive built. They included a data pipeline that fetched raw data and classified it as well as a continuously learning system deployed across several cloud services. I can tell I know a lot more than your average developer who probably never studied it. But even still, I dont feel like that’s my strength.
It’s a hyped term like DS was a few years ago. The hype will die and market will become more saturated still. You’re better off specializing in DE, low latency stuff, cloud, databases, etc.
How is the demand for DE? I see DE don’t get enough credits with the data companies are hoarding.
DE don’t get enough credit but you will always need good data engineers, your models are only as good as your data.
