Are these fields now dying or are there still job openings for these roles? I am going through the ML trainings at Amazon with a thought that I'll transition to DL SWE, but now I see that most companies having layoffs have targeted this space. Should I consider the transition seriously or just become better at my backend web development instead? Edit: Hahaha, I'm not looking for philosophical answers guys 😂😂
The more and more complex things we want computers to do, the more we have to replace legacy rule based systems with DL based systems.
Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them. Frank Herbert, Dune
Well, there are a lot of different opinions out there
lol, data scientist jobs are greatly reduced recently
Yeah. I'm trying to make a switch, currently a data scientist in Amazon. I'm finding it hard. Bar has raised and opportunities are less.
What are you trying to make a switch into?
I’m in the same boat. I am spending almost 4 hrs a day trying to catch up and it just doesn’t seem enough. Also DS as a role seems to be on the down hill. Trying for applied science now but you have to learn DS&A to be eligible. I don’t have a minute left to breathe.

The end of Backdoor Roth?!
Not dying, just having a bit of a reality-check (especially on the purist research side). Still a very useful skill to know anyhow (especially if you get some robotics experience / signal processing etc. - that stuff beats web dev any day)
