Finally a digital platform can have Tom and Jerry in it’s entirety.

Amazon Just Jared May 26, 2021

Wow that’s crazy, i guess they are really trying to make a stance in the streaming space. Does this include the MGM Hotels and Casinos too??

Amazon uLjq33 May 26, 2021

Jeff is moving in there and it will no longer be open to the general public.

Nordstrom NerdHead Jun 1, 2021

L7 Yellow badge. PV. Few facts for you: 1) Despite several internal promotions and high profile external hires, Prime Video/ Amazon Studios has yet to launch a single hit show. The Grand Tour remains global king and nothing else has come close in half a decade. Jen Salke & Brad Beale are the VPs responsible for Prime Video having nothing to show when compared to Disney+, Netflix or HBO Max, and their teams are the reason why Studio executives laugh at us- they view us as a second tier service. 2) PV faces a unique challenge where we have loads of money, but very few Studios left wanting to sell their content. Disney and WB are the top two and they are keeping everything for Disney+ and HBO Max. Paramount is keeping stuff for its soon to fail Paramount+. Universal, Sony, MGM and Lionsgate are the only one’s left. Universal is too expensive and the other two without any relevant franchises, so that leaves MGM as the best purchase. MGM needs Amazon’s money and Amazon needs hit content. 3) Without this content, PV has a bunch of recently promoted L8 Directors with direct reports all scratching their heads not knowing what to do. Look them up in the phone tool and see for yourself. All have zero deals to sign because there’s no great content available. So they just write & present docs to each other to pass the time & engage in toxic politics that would shame Congress. While it is tempting to think of this as a positive development, Prime Video has an incredibly low hiring/ promotion bar, and it is largely the lack of vision, poor leadership, external developments and the overabundance of internal politics that has forced Amazon’s hand.

1. Salke was a mistake and needs to be shown the door. Amazon needs to make De Luca head of film and get Cindy Holland in to run TV. Overlay that with someone strategic at the top (Peter Chernin, Richard Plepler or even Steve Moscow) and Amazon makes Disney, Warner and Apple fight for the third seat. 2. Amazon made a tactic mistake with MGM as Ian Fleming died 57 years ago, which means James Bond becomes public domain in 13 years. I wouldn’t want to be the outside counsel who gave the IP opinion on that deal. 3. It’s wild that Amazon PV isn’t using historical transaction data for rentals / purchases / DVD & Blu-ray’s as part of the green light committee to help inform financial / subscriber analysis on certain directors, actors, genres and even composers (all crosstabbed by territory, native v. non-native language and staying power as a function of additional windows / time decay from initial release). It’s wild how Amazon’s content strategy team pales in comparison to Netflix’s content strategy team as well in terms of analysis such as opportunity cost, subscriber retention, etc. That’s an area they really need to build up. I’m a COO at a major film financier in town, but would work at Amazon PV in a heartbeat because the opportunity for that service is incredible. DM me, Amazon.

Do you believe you’re the first one to see the opportunity or that those working here don’t? It’s purely internal politics driven by poor decisions + ass protection tactics that keep all that potential at bay. No way to realize it other than to purge all L8/L10 leaders and replace them with experienced hires.

They need to do “PIP: The Series”

Amazon studios does have good shows though. I don’t watch many shows but, I liked boys and upload. Heard good things about jack ryan, man in high castle, undone. There’s couple good 3p shows like expanse, invincible, fleabag. With lord of the rings and wheel of time, some Jordan peele show etc things aren’t looking very slim.

Amazon screwedbya May 27, 2021

Heard good things ey? Wanna guess how much that counts at PV when our metrics tell a totally different story? I sit in global WBRs where each leader tries desperately to obfuscate/ camouflage/ hide just how poorly stuff we spent hundreds of millions on actually performs. And somehow, the chumps that are responsible for paying for that junk all got promoted to L8 after COVID! As I said, PV is one big political clusterfuck! We will never do well till all L8 & L10s are forced to leave. Yes forced (PV has the lowest attrition rate in all of Amazon and so every L8 mafia Don has their own fiefdom)

Amazon nocallouts May 27, 2021

I feel like content is a secondary problem to the terrible UI. It’s ugly, clunky, and trash for discovering content (of which, there is actually plenty of good stuff). The automated campaigns are overreliant on popularity, so when something becomes popular it gets surfaced constantly and stays popular as a result. This is especially bad for kids content. Any reasonably intelligent human (or even a dumb human who actually cares about movies and TV) can tell this is a broken experience and it doesn’t seem as if anyone cares. Hire actual editors to curate and contextualize content. Hire/empower other humans to run QA on recommendations so we aren’t doing humiliating things like recommending Mandingo to people who watched The Underground Railroad (this is a real example and leads me to assume nobody at PV has ever met a black person). Spending billions of dollars on content when the experience is this bad is like putting the world’s finest cheese in the world’s shittiest mousetrap.
