Currently I am a contractor for Cisco working through a small company in eastern europe. I managed to get an offer from gopro (g7), basically a senior software engineer offer. The thing is that I am not sure if I'll be able to handle the job and I am afraid to be fired after a short time. I have installments to pay to the bank and I can't afford to be fired quickly cause this will fuck me hard. Also, I have close to 2 years since I am working for this outsourcing company and I thought that if I resist 3 years this will make my resume better or something. Also, what if they fire me after 3 months at gopro, a 3 months job is bad for a resume. Also, right now I work fully remote, at gopro they want 2 days per week at the office. Basically I am afraid that they will fire me since this will be the first senior position in my life or that the other colleagues that have 10+ years of experience will hate me since I have only 4 yoe and they will b jealous and make my life a living hell (happened to me in the past). I don't know what would you suggest me to do? Offer: 2500$/net month + 50k$ stocks over 4 years Current TC: 1900$/net month YOE: 4 (and a half)
Don't go. 20% bump and 12.5K/vested stocks isn't going to help mitigate potential risks you mentioned. Wait for a move that makes you feel confidant, salary is secondary and anything around 30% improvement is a good reason.
Another thing that worries me is that if I continue to work for shitty companies, basically the current one is a no name I risk to ruin my career
Companies matter the least. Critical is how you process the interview and how you come.across. Then your knowledge and products, projects you worked on. Your ability to see the larger.picture and vision. Company, schools weights least.
The company interviewed you and decided that you have the necessary skills to be a senior engineer. Don’t sell yourself short.
It seems like you have good wlb now and the GoPro move is an unknown in terms of wlb and culture. However, all in you are doubling your pay. If you are smart you can probably crack it. Pray about it but don’t be unconfident and sell yourself short. They said they wanted you
Your offer details is not good enough to advise anything here.
