Ask me anything, within reason. Up front, a few things I will/can not do: - Provide specific role/location comp details - Look at/provide your loop feedback (or if you’re rehire eligible) - Refer you to X role I’ll answer questions the next ~24-36 hours. Thread will close Monday. TC: L6, $275k Edited to add: if you came here to bash Amazon or come after me because a million-person company didn’t hire you, please move on and let me try to help others and enjoy my Sunday. I’m not here to defend Amazon or any decisions that have been made. #AMA #recruiterAMA #AmazonAMA #tech
Thanks for rejecting me, it led me to Square. Your behavioiral questions suck.
I’m sure I wasn’t the one to personally reject you, but your attitude (and attacking someone randomly on the internet) speaks volumes of how I can presume that interview likely went. Good luck at Square!
Ah yes, Amazon is known for being full of the bestest nicest people. Because that’s who they hire.
Why does the bar raiser have veto power over people with more knowledge of what they are hiring for?
In reality bar raiser used to control things but now manager and their shitty politics of empire building takes priority above all
Because they’re looking out for Amazon as a whole - you can transfer internally at ANY time (literally day 1) so they’re there to ensure we aren’t hiring someone simply because they’re a friend of the team (for example) and would be able to move into another role/team and be successful. In hundreds of interviews, I’ve only come close to veto-ing a hire once. It can be an abuse of power for many, which is frustrating.
Can you provide L7 nontech PgM comp please?
No, I stated up front I won’t provide comp.
When will hiring start again?
We’re all hoping yesterday! Latest rumor is q2.
If Q2, does it mean hiring the laid off will be the priority?
What’s the purpose of a bar raiser ? You guys are already killing people in Lc hards and system design
The BR is there to be an impartial voice on the panel, so teams don’t get too in the weeds on how this person specifically fits into their role/team/org. The BR supports LP based interviews (typically) and are there to lean in and support the hiring team in driving a decision while also looking out for the candidate/Amazon as a whole. Primarily: Ensuring this person will be set up for success in the role they interviewed for, OR ultimately helping determine if this candidate is Amazonian but just interviewed for the wrong role. Edit: typo
Since you are/were a recruiter, do you personally do bar raiser interviews for SWE candidates too?
I have/can, I prefer to have a technical BRIT with me if/when I do. If I’m solo I’m very up front with the candidate that I am NOT technical and may ask them to explain things a bit simpler for me. Overall, I’m not there as BR to evaluate tech/functional - so I lean on the panel to assess that.
I am a BIE L5 amd working in Data engineering team since 2 years. Since beginning, my manager tells me that he will make me DE L5 but still no information from him. How can push him to convert and is he doing this intentionally?
Asking for a friend. Will amazon still hire summer interns? Some job listings were removed, some are still there. Specially security engineer internships.
What roles are you hiring for still?
💀
Pretty scattered across the board but not many in general. I’ve seen a few reqs in Marketplace Project Kuiper, the FCs, and in AWS Public Sector. Most teams I know of are not hiring, though.
