My friend just graduated with PhD in CS and got an offer from AMD in Orlando, FL. $120,000/10%/RSU $15,000/Sign-on $13,000 Does this look reasonable? it looks too low to me. What would be his target for negotiation for senior engineer position with no work experience in Orlando? #amd #senior_engineer
Seems good for Orlando with no experience plus at a hardware company
This is negotiating. If you feel it’s too low, make a counter offer. If you are pleased with the offer, accept it. This is the time where you and the company can be clear with one another. Years ago, I accepted a job where I would need a week off shortly after starting (family wedding). When we were negotiating (before starting employment), I informed them about the needed time off. We went back and forth until we came to a reasonable agreement. This is your time to do that. If you think you desire $ xx,xxx more, then let them know and they will either 1) accept your proposal, 2) counter your proposal, or 3) not negotiate. If they want you, they will probably do one of the 1st 2 options.
Given that this is AMD, and Orlando, this offer is slightly higher than average. He can ask for more and probably can get 5% more in something (base, sign on, relocation, or RSU)
This sounds about right for MTS for Orlando, FL. I'm surprised the bonus target is only 10% though, I would think more like 15% and RSU could be a bit higher. I don't think most people get sign on bonus from AMD. EDIT: Just realized this is for Senior Role. If they have a PhD in CS they should be able to get MTS role right out of the gate. But everything looks pretty good for Sr. Eng. in OR, FL.
Senior Engineer with no experience? Seems weird.
What makes you so sure it’s no experience? A lot of people getting PhD’s have a couple years of experience. Also the Ph.D is worth something.
Unless I’m misreading the post he says no experience.
