As with anything, the little guy will suffer while those at the top will reap the benefits. AI is inevitable, and the strikes, while rooted out of a genuine desire to see wage increase and protections against AI, won’t stop the overwhelming desires of companies to not only harvest data but also leverage it for their own potential gain. If tech workers, once thought to be immune to any sort of automation or layoffs are being affected by AI, what chance does the working actor have? If a company can spend significantly less to have likenesses simulate some of the roles such as side characters and extras, they’ll do it. There is also the political aspect, too. Regardless of how you feel about the current state of Hollywood, there are many who feel alienated by movies that are coming out now and will gladly pay top dollar to create their own media (independent or otherwise) that makes them feel more vindicated in their beliefs or filters out elements of the original that are unsavory. In the end, companies like Netflix don’t care about the working actor or creative to the extent that they can monopolize them. Creatives have always been under-appreciated and underpaid, and while the strikes might change that in the short term, any battles with AI will be fought legislatively by the EU via the GDPR and other laws to be enacted that protect against identify and digital likeness.
