Why Modi not asking for votes based on work?
Hi fellow blinders, this is my first post here. Blind has helped me a lot during job search and interviews, wanted to get some feedback on the offers I have: Highspot: Sr SDE Base: 185k Stock Options: 24k (~ $90k per year) Signing bonus: 25k Millennium Management: Software Engineer Base: 180k Target Bonus: 60k Signing Bonus: 25k 1. Could you please elaborate why you would choose one over the other? 2. I am particularly looking at WLB, job security and immigration experiences (H-1B transfer). Appreciate your inputs on these. 3. Can anyone elaborate on Millennium's target bonus, is that guaranteed or dependent on performance? Current TC: 200k (L5) YOE: 10 #swe #hedgefund #startup #immigration
Amazon
Thank you for the suggestion. As I mentioned above, I joined Amazon a year back and have been doing operations work ever since. Thought about changing teams, but not sure how different it will be in other teams.
If you joined a year ago as L5, how come your TC is only 200k? That's very low at Amazon.
WTF is this? Are we supposed to know these companies? One is not even on Blind, another has a rating below Amazon. Really?
Keep interviewing or stay at amazon. Especially if you want stability, crap startups aren’t your choice. Find something else that’s a real upgrade. Google, LinkedIn, Microsoft, plenty of more stables out there.
Thank you, that is a great suggestion. Kinda burnt out with the LC process so was thinking of deciding based on current offers. Pre-ipo gig also felt kinda exciting, but it definitely has its risks. Feels like it makes sense to keep grinding and go for the real upgrades.
Just consider them practice and worthwhile on your journey. Grinding sucks but if you’re getting offers you’re getting close! Keep it up. You got this.
It will be really helpful if the people voting could leave a comment why they are choosing one over the other. Thanks
I know Highspot has had some difficulty with H-1B transfers, so be sure to look into that thoroughly before accepting. I think 24k of options translating into $90k/year might be a little exaggerated and until the company IPOs they're not worth anything. You also still have to vest and exercise which costs money + taxes.
How's highspot doing ? So what could be fair value of their stock option, I am interviewing with them , curious to know. Recruiter kept quoting each option is atleast worth 12-15$.
The thing they don't tell you is that you have to pay the strike price to convert the option into stock. Assuming the investors want 2x what they pay (typical) I think $12 is about right. That puts it around $10/share after exercise. I think they'll IPO and I think it'll be a decent price but I don't think it'll be as lucrative as the recruiters make it sound. Don't forget that you have a 1 year cliff and then vest monthly after that. Plus you pay taxes on exercise and when you sell, at a much higher rate than salary.
@op are you getting 24k options per year or 24k options vested over 4 years ?
Over 4 years
Just curious, how did you get to the $90K per year options math? Did they give you an IPO price? They’ve been hush with me so far and not able to comment on what the potential options price could be (just given me the number of shares with no price)
That number OP must have got from recruiter, you should ask the recruiter what's the fair market value of the options being offered to you. How many options you were offered and what's the TC ? Always recruiters mention future price of their options so if they quote it's worth 15$ you can calculate 0.75x quoted value as fair value.
Based on the numbers OP gave 0.75x will result in a number MUCH higher than the current FMV.
Highspot for IPO
That is not a bad offer for Millennium. Is this front office, middle office or back office Software Engineer?
Hello I am looking for a referal in Millennium Management, can i Dm you?
Bro stay at Amazon and push for L6. With your YOE you can manage.
I joined Amazon a year back and have been doing operations work ever since. Thought about changing teams, but not sure how different it will be in other teams. Even if I do change teams, the time it requires to make the L6 promo (from Blind posts) seems insane.
