Hi all, I am a young EE in the automotive industry, and I think that I want to go into ASIC or IC design. Right now, I work strictly on PCB design, and I want to find a way to get ASIC experience in order to market myself to those positions. I am not looking for extra money or anything, I just want a way to break into that industry. Hoping for some suggestions or recommendations! Thank you EE TC90k Yoe 1.5 #hardware #semiconductor #ASIC
Other option is to start with DV and then move into design. You can get familiar with rtl designs while debugging In DV.
I feel like DV is harder to get into than just rtl. If OP was a SWE then I'd say the same but they're coming from pcb? I feel like design/validation would probably be easiest to get
This is true getting into a good DV role as a new grad is hard
You should probably do a few projects on fpga. That should get you where you need to be for entry level interviews. There are great videos for cdc practices, timing analysis, etc online
I should have said this at the start, I have fpga and software experience. I worked with a lot of fpga in college, and I wrote firmware at my first job. That is part of the reason I want to look into asic design is because I enjoyed fpga so much
Ah yes, then if your oop is good design verification may be easier to get. Some companies really want you to know uvm already though which I've heard there are good resources for. Validation will most likely be lowest barrier to entry and you'll often get to do rtl, scripting, and firmware
Since your coming from a PCB background, I personally think it would be more of a natural fit for you to into physical design. Unless your straight out of college.. I think DV and rtl rolls would be tougher to break into since they will expect you to have "some" experience after your first job.
Any way to work on projects to put somewhat of a portfolio together you think ? I brought schematics and stuff to my last job interview and I got the offer, and I am willing to work on this outside of work
Get a masters with that specialization. Fastest way, unless you can get a company to hire you for that responsibility
Any good masters program recommendations?

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
If you are not on visa, just apply for new grad asic roles or internships
Is that something I can without leaving my current full time job ?
If you don’t have internal moving flexibility, then You have to leave this if you want to change domain, Changing domain after 1-2 years is easier than 4-5 years,
