When you insert a SIM into any phone, it picks up the IMEI number of that phone. However, as AT&T has deemed my phone to be a 3G phone, their customer service can't add my IMEI number to their system. It's latched onto my friends phone's IMEI number (rendering their phone useless). Currently, they are actively blacklisting known 3G devices. My phone does satisfy all their technical requirements. Why does AT&T exclusively blacklist phones without doing the necessary due diligence? Why are they not allowing their customer service to add a IMEI after proving it's a 4G compatible device? Any AT&T engineers on here? Any help would be appreciated. #tech #telecom #att
Maybe you're phone does not support ATT 4G bands. Try another carrier perhaps?
It does have most of the necessary ATT 4G bands.
The frequencies supported also varies by location. You’d need an engineer to really dig into this and see what’s supported.
Time to switch to T-Mobile or Verizon https://www.opensignal.com/reports/2022/01/usa/mobile-network-experience-5g
Many android phones although they use 4G for data make voice calls using 3G so that is the reason their network is rejecting your phone
As I mentioned, voice calls are now working. This happened as soon as the network registered (linked) the number with an IMEI that's on their whitelist. Also, I've manually set a flag in my phone to only use 4G bands for all communication.
I remember when 4G first became available? AT&T was offering HSPA+ and claiming it as 4G before launching their official LTE services. The way it was explained to me was they were able to enable HSPA+ on their existing 3G towers, and claim their 4G network was much larger than it actually was… May have something to do with that? (I have no clue though, I was just selling AT&T phones at my local RadioShack during that time lol)
What I’m getting at is maybe your phone isn’t actually LTE enabled, and is only picking up the HSPA+/pseudo 4G…
This phone is 4G LTE capable. The phone notifies you when you're using LTE (which is currently the case) & when you're using something else.
Due to their planned 3G network shutdown, ATT has stopped non registered phones. So if your phone is not on their list of approved phones, service won't be activated ..list is avbl on their website . Pick up new compatible phone and move on. They shipped free phone for users on old phone though they were pretty basic phones.
This is the whole issue. I've looked at their list & it's incomplete. They have not done a good job of covering a lot of phones. Even phones that are 4G LTE capable are being falsely flagged as 3G phones on their network. Didn't you read the post?
Which phone is it exactly. There are a lot of certification process in addition to 4G or LTE and sometimes they don’t work well with their carrier equipment or roaming partners.
You sure your phone supports the right 4g bands? Not all 4g is created equal.
Why would I think this is an issue if the phone didn't have the necessary bands?
Do you know how many times I've had someone insist the power cable was plugged in only to find out it wasn't? The fact that you're notsharing the phone model with a BS security claim suggests you Ajay know your phone is incompatible and you're attempting to language lawyer you're way into getting sorted.
Does TC or GTFO applies here?
Even if he did give TC he should still GTFO
AT&T is also the company that marketed "5GE" that was really 4G LTE, so not surprising if your "4G" phone still uses 3G.
What are you talking about? The phone is not using 3G. They are falsely claiming the phone to be only 3G capable.
They did the same for me..my phone did not work after getting a new SIM card. I had to get a new phone.
Maybe you can ask for a new usim with the same number.
That's what I need to try. I'm more concerned about releasing my friends IMEI & registering my IMEI.
If you ask for a new SIM, you will have a new IMSI and they will deactivate the old one for security reasons.
