I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
Why AT&T? Isn’t that a dying company!? Edit: based on Amazon comment company it isn’t dying company.
Dying company? Why ?
AT&T has been around since 1885, or 1983 in it’s current state. They are stable in their core business areas: wireline networks, wireless division, and FirstNet for first responders. The utility nature of their core businesses, and their reputation for stability once installed (five nines) makes them highly sought after by businesses. Structured layoffs happened annually between about 2015-2020, around when they purchased their entertainment division, which they have since sold. They outsourced a lot to IBM at this point, and a lot of Ops roles were reduced - creating the same challenges some tech teams see today. It has otherwise *seemed* pretty stable, aside from the SSN leak this year. It’s not a flashy FAANG, but if you negotiate a good salary from external and like what you’re working on, it can be a good company to work for; they promote. “Old timer” types are often 3rd+ generation employees (parents/grandparents working there), they stay for 20-40 years. Prior to 2011 or so they were pensioned as well. Source: I worked there earlier in my career for a number of years. I left because I didn’t want to work in telecom. I was quickly promoted from low paying roles into my final high paying role, and found that external hires were making 40% more than me.
