I went through the interview process with an AWS team. After the on-site, the team wanted to bring me on, but right before they gave me the offer, they said they over-hired for the position (met their headcount) so they are directing me to the AWS ML Solutions team. They said I won’t have to go through another on-site but there will be another phone interview. I interviewed with a really great team initially so I’m very disappointed that I’m forced to settle for something else. The job description for the role says travel up to 25% is required with the recruiter saying travel will primarily be local/nearby cities. I have a family now so I’d rather not travel. The role also sounds like consulting which is also not what I want this time in my career. Does anyone have any insight on working on ML Solutions team they can share? I sent other Amazon openings with other teams to my initial recruiter who promises to find out if there will be a fit. I doubt he has my best interest in view so I don’t expect much from him. If travel is involved it’s mostly solution architect kind of role. I understand the travel especially having family/kids. Not easy for everyone! Had to decline a role with AWS just because of the excessive travel requirements. But it depends on the team and you might be un/lucky.
I found that the traveling is either at the beginning or end of project and it’s minimal so the role is starting to look better. What’s also attractive is the idea of learning a lot about the AWS ecosystem/cloud infrastructure.
😎
Team is mostly PhD with some MS. Essentially external applied deep learning scientist without the applied scientist title. Focus on CV, NLP, forecasting mainly using client data. Also heard hiring a ton and was thinking about applying. Seems like if you have PhD or masters in math, stats, CS should be fine. Pretty new team tho despite fast growth so there's that
How do you know so much about the team?
Just decline the offer or ask for more $$$
Based on what I can gather about the role, I’ll probably decline the ML Solutions right away. If it’s not a fit for the life I want, best not to get enticed by asking for more $$$
