AWS Cloud Support Engineer (Dallas, TX) Salary

Hello, I am looking for compensation data in Dallas location for AWS CSE I position. I am currently being offered the following package which is less than what I currently make. The package is $90/$21/27RSU. Do you think this is a good package for Dallas CSE I? I tried to negotiate but the recruiter said the manager is firm on the package. Also, I have an offer from Intel which is better than this. I am just considering Amazon because of the location. Please advise.

That seems like a nice offer for Oregon

And what is the role at Intel? Is it still a support type of role?

HPC Engineer

If I were you I'll go with AWS. Simply because it opens more doors. Like GCP, OCI or even Microsoft cloud. One issue I do see is the support engineer. I know from experience is that once you work in support you always get tagged for support

Getting tagged for support is exactly one of my concerns. Apart from the low compensation compare to what I make now, I am worried that I will have to downgrade to support role from a Network Admin role. I did get Systems Engineering position at Intel as well with the IT Group but folks advised me to stay away from the IT Group because they get hit first when it is time for layoff. That is the reason I settled for HPC Engineer. Now, I believe I can ace Amazon Network Development Engineer II interview but the position is in Seattle and I don’t want to live in Seattle. The only reason I am considering this support role is because I believe I could learn a lot and get into better opportunities eventually as cloud is the future. Am I wrong? Also, I believe it is an opportunity to join FAANG which may make it easier to transition to another one of the FAANG. I am thinking in the right direction?

I hear you. I think another reason to chose AWS might be Dallas city. You may find more opportunities there as compared go Oregon

Have a buddy in AWS support he told me they just keep working on client issues and keep talking on the phone or typing emails...He is also in Networking domain. Keeps on collecting logs that client doesnt have access of. 70% issues that get because client is not aware about how things work in Cloud and they have to train them. Frustrating job. There are good profiles in engineering and Cloud Development team.

How much? Pls Define "decent"

$90k can go a lot further in Dallas and also Texas doesn't have state income tax. That brings your offer within range of Intel. With cost of living equated in I'd say Dallas wins.

I used to work in Cloud Support in Dallas. Do not, I repeat, do NOT take this job. It’s literally a call center and you’ll be degraded to a customer service agent. I had to quit amazon for a year and boomerang around to get into an SDE role. The Cloud Support Job set me back 2 years in my career and is one of my biggest career regrets. Pay was decent. $81,000 base, $9,000 sign on, and 47 shares (hired in 2015). However, the job was absolute cancer and I’d never recommend it. Management is incompetent and consists of low quality people that clearly couldn’t cut it elsewhere. Their job is to micromanage you and to constantly tell everyone to “go available “ and take calls and chats. People in this org hilariously call themselves engineers but are nothing more than a call center employee that googles shit. Nobody knew how to script or code and the job can be done by anyone with a middle school education.

I was offered 68k I think. So yeah that is a great package!

Amazon silversul Jul 21, 2023

Don’t join. I was a CSE earlier. The offer you are getting is way too less and it is a very stressful job.

Lol, that is too low even for support!
