Hello! I am torn between two offers. 1. SWE with a DE focus at a fintech start up —> TC: 160 2. AWS DE L4 —> TC:180 I believe I would learn more about software development and data engineering at the start-up (using AWS, Python, SQL, kafka) and, in 6 to 12 months, could get an L5 position at Amazon as an SDE or equivalent at another company. Unfortunately, I messed up some during an easy part of the Amazon technical assessment and was down leveled to L4. The evaluation was only SQL; if DS and algorithms were included I would have been a stronger candidate as a DE. I am leaning towards the start-up and then come back and interview again if I feel up to it, but Amazon isn’t easy to get into, and I don’t want to pass up an offer. My main questions are: 1. Once an offer is made by Amazon and rejected, is it easy to interview in a few months? 2. Estimate how long would it take to be promoted from L4 to L5 if I do well on the team? YOE 5 in Analytics / DE / BI and TC is peanuts #aws #software #amazon #dataengineer
