AWS Equity Buy Out?
If amazon hires you, do they typically offer to buy out very near term equity vesting from my current employer?

That's what sign on bonus and new hire stock grant are meant to cover - whatever unvested equity you are walking away from.

I don't think Amazon gives a true sign-on bonus. The cash given over 2 years is for making up the back loaded vesting schedule. Someone from Amazon can confirm if that's changed or not.
