AWS Job Hunt Advice

Hi Guys, Please I need advice on what to do. I am a 33yr old lady. I have a degree in Microbiology outside the US, currently have a year left to finish up my second degree in Information Systems Management with a minor in Cybersecurity here on the East Coast. I have the first 3 AWS certifications all self study & self taught. (Solutions Architect, Cloud Practitioner & Certified Devops) with a prior IT background in Healthcare IT( Epic & Cerner). Due to the flakely Healthcare IT market & pay drop I decided to make a full switch to AWS. However I got pregnant & it’s been tough on my health. Baby is due in 3 months from now. The goal this year was to land a full time gig in AWS but I haven’t. I got an interview with Amazon for a remote CIA role, I cancelled it after reading up on their messed up WLB. Can someone please point me in the right direction on companies that can give me a chance as an AWS rookie with no YOE and can provide a reasonable WLB for a first time Mom who is also juggling school. I am currently out of work & literally living off my savings. I will really appreciate it. Thank you. #aws #jobhunt #wlb

You could try for Google GCP health related teams. I am sure AWS cloud skills are transferable to GCP and Google has better wlb.

You just want to use your AWS skills? Can’t you apply for a Cloud Engineer role anywhere? Especially if it’s remote, you should be able to structure the time you spend on your actual deliverables, as long as you hit all your meetings

I have zero coding experience, except for my Python class in college. I am not sure if a Cloud Engineer role will be a good fit for me.

Most cloud engineers I know are shitty programmers. Myself included haha. Have you worked with AWS Cloudformation or Terraform to any extent? Can you brush up on your Python skills within within 2-7 days? If you’re good with using/consuming AWS I think you should apply for Cloud Engineer or Cloud Admin roles.

You already have the 3 AWS associate certs. Begin applying for Cloud Engineering roles as soon as you can/want — you’re qualified. A lot of Cloud Engineers I know come in w/ low skills skills and no certs. You already have a leg up on them. Things to know, even if just the absolute basics of: * AWS CLI (for bash or power shell) * Scripting (fizz buzz in your language of choice) * Basics of an OS (windows or Linux) * Cloudformation (Infrastructure as Code) You could learn that in a few hours. Get your first role and then learn the rest as you

Any interest in consulting?

I am very much open to consulting. I am a smart & quick learner at anything.

You can do it …. But before that read up on python. The only missing thing I see is scripting knowledge which is not that hard to obtain if you are good at self learning. Also, try some projects on your own and put it on GitHub repo, that also increases your chances. Best of luck and congrats to you…

And yes , please don’t join any consulting sweatshops…
