AWS L7 Sr Manager to IBM Partner Band D - should I go?
Currently a L7 Manager at AWS and got an offer to join IBM as a partner (Band D) Yoe - 20 yrs, 5+ at AWS Current TC: $475k IBM is offering a package of $650k ($375 base + 35% bonus + $50k sign on bonus and rest is equity) I am aware of the drastic difference in culture between AWS and IBM ( with IBM being much slower) and offering good WLB. What else am I missing? Is this a good offer? Should I look for a Band C offer? Would the current IBMers call this a step back? π Btw, this is the best offer I got so far but I believe I still can negotiate with IBM. Quick responses appreciated.

This is a great offer. IBM is not like AWS where you can be down leveled or (sometimes) up leveled. L7 to band D is fair, unless you are so senior and well-known in the industry that you are on the verge of L8. With this IBM TC, there are two risks- 1/ 35% bonus is target bonus unless they have guaranteed it in writing (which they almost never guarantee). 2/ there is risk of resource action (RA) for new individuals with high comp. If you can get comfort around these two points, go for it. Level is fair. TC is more than fair.
Thanks robjin! Good points! I am aware of potential RA but I think they need me badly enough ( not trying to brag but just reading between the lines) that I might survive. L8 at AWS is achievable but might take me 2+ years

Congrats!! I made a similar move out of faang for director+ role. Faang doesnβt have much upside lately and once you get exec level on resume, it is easier to move around
