Received an L7 offer from AWS and my current employer Accenture is countering. When do I tell the AWS recruiter I’m in this situation? How long will AWS typically accommodate a candidate on their decision? When the recruiter called with the figures, I was happy enough as it is a big jump but I asked for a few days to “take it all in”. It’s now been a weekend and two biz days. In the early interview stages I conveyed that I wasn’t actively interviewing with other companies any longer (I had been in discussions with McKinsey when AWS first approached), but I did let them know that I was in an internal assessment period and a candidate for promotion to Associate Director within Accenture. I need to light a fire under the vortex that is Accenture HR as I do want to actually see the counter, but I know they cannot match AWS. However, if they come “close”, given the WLB and new title, I am just a little torn – more than I expected. I have confirmation from my leadership that the counter is with HR. (Accenture has a process, imagine that) I’m staring at an email from the recruiter received today asking if there are any questions they can answer … ACN TC: 211, base 195 as new AD (L5) on Dec 1 —yes my current TC is EVEN LOWER AWS TC: 453, base 220 as an L7 BDM 20+ ye
If you’re already considering going elsewhere entertaining their counter offer doesn’t make a lot of sense. Take the AWS and move on.
Take it and leave Accenture
With 20 yoe, decide best as you mentioned that WLB at Accenture won't be comparable to Amazon.
Yes if I go I’m hiring a nanny/house manager so I can just work like a maniac and not get pipped. I won’t be doing anything else for a while until I establish myself, which if I survive could be 2-3 years. I see what happens to experienced hires even at Accenture —we chew them up. Amazon must be 10X worse.
Bruh that’s a 2x, the right time to sign the offer letter is now! Stocks are dirt rn but will explode later.
Also it’s mostly cash in the first 2 yrs. I’d say take the offer and run.
Go to Amazon
Join AWS. Accenture ain’t going to counter more than the AWS offer. There is $$ to be made here. I remember when I wanted to do management consulting. Then saw how many hours they work and travel 48 weeks a year for cents on the dollar compared to tech companies.
Accenture countering AWS ? Not a joke right ?
No not making it up. Accenture has an official retention equity award for people with “skills critical to the business”. 3 year vest.
Well they should’ve given that to you before you started looking.
Yes I am having the “take it an run” vibes, know the stock is at a 2 and 5 year low. Ego is getting the best of me as it would be nice to have a decent title for once. Honestly am not sure I will survive AWS - one year yes, 2 feels iffy and 4 is a 50/50 fail chance. But back to the timeframe. I do want to see the counter - you know like when you are mad and want to see your s.o. beg a little. I also want to leave on good terms, so don’t want to send a big fu when several leaders (finally) went to bat. Yes being at Accenture this long clearly clouds the senses …
You have 20 YOE, $211K or even $300K is not a novel amount of money at that experience level. Take the AWS offer and don't look back. Even if you get PIP'd within a couple years you can double your TC with your next hop, I'm not shitting you
Are you kidding.. take the Aws offer. Your market value will be much higher after a few years at Aws So you can jump if you don't like the hustle and wlb too much
Join AWS, you shouldn't care what Accenture counters unless it's significantly higher than your AMZN offer. Even in terms of exit opportunities they're not even comparable. LEAVE!!
That just tells you poorly Accenture treated you
