Database companies that pay well for Staff SWE
Wife got an offer from both Citrix and AWS, def leaning AWS but Citrix culture and vacation and benefits seemed pretty good as well. Only worry is both of us working for AWS as I already know how busy and stressful culture can be. She has 3 YOE and MCOL city. Citrix: Base 160k Sign-on: 10k AWS: Base 130k (L5 Non-SDE role) Sign on Yr1 - 107k over one year Sign on Yr2 - 85k over one year RSU: 2200 units. (~286k)
Maybe stay at Amazon for a year and then go wherever you want after that with Amazon on the resume
What Level for AWS?
L5 non SDE role.
Those numbers on the AWS offer don’t make sense?
Take aws. If you don't like aws then you can always go back to citrix even at a higher level
AWS seems be a better option in terms of cash, even if she plan to switch after first 2 years.
I would take Amazon. If you don’t mind..what domain/technology is she in?
Cloud domain, but can’t go deep into specifics as it’s a small circle.
I worked in Citrix for 2 years and would not recommend it. I grew up in the Fort Lauderdale area, where headquarters is, and joined through a networking event in Miami. I always wanted to work there because it was a successful local tech company with lots of cool networking stuff to do. I still have some friends working there who are pretty good, but for the last 10 years or longer it’s been run by sales and marketing people. A number of bad acquisitions and lack of strategy for long term growth of the company made it a complete joke. I’m glad I left though I was happy with some of the work I did there and made a great impact. But leadership is awful, there are a bunch of older lazy folks who don’t do much of shit. It doesn’t feel like much of a tech company when you consider weak engineering principles and lack of direction. AWS will be tough, but she’ll be compensated relatively well and Amazon is always a good place to come from when looking to jump.
Any chance she can go back to Citrix and ask for a match or better offer? Or is this already after negotiations?
This is after and as high as Citrix can go.
Citrix isn’t known for strong offers. I had a friend in a similar boat a couple of years ago.
