Hi! Got a Solution Architect offer from AWS, and also passed the gTech TSC interviews but still need to find a team (most probably advertising). Which should I choose? How are these roles regarded inside the company and which has better career perspectives? Context: I am a dev lead / senior software engineer with nearly 9 years of experiences, currently working in a big retailing company. No FAANG on my resume so far. I've been looking for a career pivot since I've been a senior dev for the past 5 years (last company in Europe, current company in Japan). I'm interested in architecture, also have no problem working with tech and non-tech people. Edit: Both roles are non-senior level. AWS probably L5 (judging from offer TC), 1.4 times of my current TC. No number or level details from G yet. Any opinions? #aws #gtech #solutionarchitect
Xan u share the AWS offer? And SA grade level offered?
Google is probably better WLB but AWS seems to be the area to be in. Even if they PIP'ed you there are tons of companies looking for AWS architects. Do you have time to wait for the Google offer to maybe negotiate Amazon? If not just take the AWS offer.
Thank you! I do have a deadline to reply to AWS. Unfortunately Google cannot give me a clear timeline of team matching even knowing the AWS deadline.
Whata the diff between SA and the Cloud Infra architect roles? I thought SA was pre sales and cloud infra architect was post sales but it seem like SA can also be post sales?
Typically Solutions Architect is post-sales and pre-sales is called something like Solutions Engineer. I don't know the exact title at Amazon though.
Nope, other way around. At least at AWS
SAs at AWS support both Pre and Post sales. SAs help during the evaluation process and during implementation
So is the Cloud infra architect role samething as SA except with a focus in Infra or lift and shift to cloud?
Cloud Infa Architect is in the Professional Services organization and is strictly post sales. They help customers architect solutions for paid consulting engagements and are usually hands on keyboard roles. SA is more of a coach for an assigned set of accounts (or they could be a specialist in a functional area). They typically don’t actually build the thing, rather guide the customer team on how to build it themselves with very detailed recommendations and guidance.
Tough one I would say AWS is the better product but Google Cloud is pretty strong in Tokyo from what I heard. Just curious is this in Japan? If so what level of Japanese did they ask for?
AWS SA is not the same as TSC google , a valid comparison is : AWS CSE = Google TSE AWS SA = Google ESA (they call it enterprise SA) TSE is a support role for google cloud , CSE is support role for AWS cloud I would be surprised if Google TSE offered more than AWS SA

Is the SA position pre-sales? If so, AWS. No contest. And don’t listen to everyone here that says Amazon sucks. AWS sales culture is under represented here. It’s solid opportunity, and stands out on tour resume more than Gtech.
Both are post-sale, working with existing clients to design, propose, and prototype solutions.
Yeah I’d still say AWS personally, but popped on this forum love to bag on it there. If you’re an A-player you’ll be fine.
