AWS is booting Parler.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/johnpaczkowski/amazon-parler-aws Google and Azure won’t touch them either. So these guys need to go private and really scale. RIP the Parler SDEs

Sad day for tech.

Microsoft SalesMake$ Jan 9, 2021

It's a sad day because huge companies are using their power to smash small startups. It's a platform being punished for the behavior of a subset of their users in theory but in reality it is a completely transparent political attack against Donald Trump more than anything else. Customer's cannot trust that they won't be the next targeted company by the woke mob to deplatform them, and now cloud has demonstrated it is and can be used as a political weapon. Tech should be the industry to allow free speech to thrive, it was built on the premise of bringing power to the little guy, and now it's being used to completely crush companies and people.

Microsoft SalesMake$ Jan 9, 2021

I don't think you grasp the gravity of the message that this has sent to users of tech. But I'll let you figure that out over the next few months. I predict a big swing of the pendulum back to on-premises as enterprises weigh the risk of cloud providers unilaterally cancelling services for political reasons. Culture changes quick. Today they target Trump supporters, but the window of what is "extreme" changes often. My mother voted for Donald Trump and she is a lovely kind woman. She's now lumped in with "extremists" who are being shunned from participation in society, it's wrong. Could be you next. This whole Parler cancelling situation was 100% political and obviously coordinated among Google/Apple/AWS/Twitter. Situations like this are why antitrust laws exist.

That will give some bog customers an excuse to move out.

Oracle Vsjg1! Jan 9, 2021

They have 33 employees listed on LinkedIn. Given the type and location, it seems a shady company. I wont be surprised of they are engaged in money laundering.

Microsoft azured Jan 9, 2021

Somehow I think this is retribution for trying to cancel section 230 .

Copper LiberalLad Jan 9, 2021

Tech has to position itself with the winners. A Biden administration is really good for our side because now we can decrease regulations on the tech companies and enable them to filter out all disinfo

Wait what? Biden wants to break up big tech and now has the cache to do it.

Any intel on whether this decision came from the top or from the vegans’ pressures?

Google Toobin Jan 9, 2021

Since Trumpers enjoy having a tyrant as president, I'm sure a hoster in Russia will do

Facebook lalamand Jan 9, 2021

Your comment would make any sense, if all the government and president of the US were not solely democratic as it is becoming now.

Thoughtworks anachen Jan 10, 2021

You haven't seen a tyrant in your life. Try Angela Merkel, who is hated around Europe but controls the German people who are unsatisfied with their own inability to take her down. On the other hand, Trump is quite popular around the world because he proved himself to be a reliable ally and not as crazy as you think he is.

Uber ynJo48 Jan 9, 2021

Gab will get huge. 6 months from now, Twitter stock will be down at least 20% from its current value. Not sure if Amazon will see material impacts from this—probably some Prime cancellations.

Amazon csuQ32 OP Jan 9, 2021

All that Amazon WaPo shit from Trump didn’t make any difference, why do you think this will?

Uber 2021–>1984 Jan 9, 2021

I don’t think this will move the needle much for Amazon, but it may make some people think twice before putting all their eggs in the AWS basket, and it will probably lead to some prime cancellations. For Twitter, however, I think this will be catastrophic. Amazon, Google, and Apple all have huge moats. Twitter does not.

Poor Trump just renewed his annual contract for 88M robot followers from Russia. I hope he can transfer them to his new platform.
