AWS layoff possibilities

After the huge number of layoffs at Twitter and Meta this month, now Amazon is planning to layoff people from its Robotics, Alexa and Retail/Warehouse business. What are the chances AWS will be impacted as well considering the market we are in? Which cloud services do you think would be impacted first? #tech #aws #amazon #layoffs

AWS is now essential for countless companies to stay afloat. I don’t think AWS peeps need to worry that much. Maybe some fringe good to have teams in AWS

The main red flag to look out for: did AWS overhire in the last 3 to 4 quarters. If yes, then you know the answer.

Hey it’s a late Saturday night, please don’t spend it stressing about a hypothetical. I personally don’t think AWS will have a mass layoff, it’s a huge business and a very competitive environment. To layoff means to stunt growth and that’s too costly to do in the Cloud. Of course, I do expect the Cloud to slow down in 2023 but that doesn’t automatically mean layoffs. Just stop stressing, there’s likely nothing you can do to stop it even if there were layoffs coming and everyone knew.

It’s possible there might be a reshuffling of the talent. For example, bring top talents from other cancelled projects to AWS while AWS reduces low performers.

Nothing is safe. Once they decide to lay off they will look at every opportunity to cut.

They will wait until after Peak season. The busiest retail time of the year is coming. Not a good time to cause chaos and shed a small chunk of your workforce.
