Hi! Recently got verbal offers from both AWS and Google cloud for UX/ Interaction designer positions. No TC #s yet since just got verbal offer for those of you who are going to comment “TC.” Been reading on Blind about the general company and product areas but I also want to hear from a design perspective from those who have worked there, which is better for growth as a designer, culture, etc? Would also love to hear why. Thanks in advance!! #design #google #gcp #amazon #aws
At least Google has a design system
Lol so do we
Meh, debatable.
Amazon is the #1 company now. No contest
😂
Haha
Google by far. I've worked at both and if you want specifics feel free to PM me.
May I ask why you decided to go from Google to Amazon?
I actually went from Amazon to Google. Haven't updated Blind.
Google has good investment in design over amazon any day!
Please go to AWS and undo all of their recent changes. S3 and route 53 are horrendous to use in the console, it was so streamlined before they fucked it up
There is no design culture on AWS, you’re pretty much treated like a mock maker

Does Amazon have any products with good design/UX??
No
Google for sure. Cloud is not the best team but way better than designing for Amazon.
@MasterClad Why is Google Cloud not the best team??
The culture is a mix of the companies they acquired and hires from VMWare, Amazon and companies in this field. They don't care a lot for good UX as other more Googley teams like Gsuite, Search or Android.
There’s design culture at Amazon?

Which groups? Both companies orgs are huge and the culture varies a lot by team. Having worked at both, general trends: AWS: design is second class citizen, design system is ok but boring and difficult to innovate within, product leads a lot of design direction. GCP: design is second class citizen but more respected than AWS, design system is ok but engineering holds front end innovation back, engineering leads a lot of design’s direction and ability to launch.
Super interesting. I always just kind of assumed it would be way better at Google but I guess the same struggles exist everywhere.
I’m in UX in GCP and this isn’t the case in my experience.
