AWS: 360k TC L5 190/140/30 Google: 280k TC L4 160/100/20 AWS is VERY cash-bonus heavy the first two years which appeals to me in this uncertain stock market. Google has been a dream and likely better wlb, but stock can vary. Cash bonus at Amazon does not vary. TC: 150k Yoe: 3
Location for both?
Seattle
Thatâs really good for Seattle. I suggest you pick AWS, work for two cash-heavy years, and interview for senior.
Free food or cash?
Meta was my # 1 đđđ please hit me up when the freeze is over
Member that one time Amazon didnât offer free food but instead offered the ability to use itâs failed food delivery app for not free? That was pretty sweet
L4 at Google can do upto 400k. Negotiate using your AWS numbers. If they donât agree, take AWS. G gives your pReStIeGe nothing more.
For real? Recruiter straight up told me they cannot pay âlike Amazonâ
Okay, youâre probably not on the SWE IC L4 level then. Is it an analyst or tpm kinda role? Ask them this: Whatâs the top of the band L4?
Are you seriously considering taking an 80k paycut (probably even more if stock drops) to work at Google? LolâŚ
What team did you match at Seattle?
Did you already negotiate the offers?
Take Google if you value your mental health
I have worked at both companies, I'd pick google. Amazon people culture is shit, and AWS is hell inside the amazon hell. In terms of culture, amazon is no where near G. I know several stories of people's mental/physical health deteriorating because of the stress at Amazon. Its not worth 80k.
I can speak very closely to this because I too was in a situation whether to pick Amazon for more money or Google with better benefits back in April 2022. Obviously as you can see, I picked Amazon over Google with almost 5 years of experience. First and foremost, congratulations, you've made it to the big leagues. Money at this level shouldn't be an issue. Choosing your career for $50K isn't a big deal for us anymore. I chose Amazon because it best suits my skillsets which is developing applications and services on the cloud. Amazon is expanding rapidly in my area (HQ2) in which I am trying to settle down here. The team I interviewed with emphasized how they pride themselves in work/life balance and do not expect us to work more than 40 hours a week and their work aligns with what I want to want to deeply explore in. Google on the other hand does not have a big presence in my area and the team focuses on Machine learning and not something I want to be an expert in. Both are top level companies and if things do not work out, you can switch.

What level for each?
Just edited. L5 for AWS, L4 for Google
Did you try to negotiate with Google using the Amazon offer?
