I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
Surprised google is that low on execution.
GCP is getting cut funding. Its not doing as well as it should.
Really depends on the team at AWS. I liked OCI but they’re far behind, top leadership is spotty, and they RIF relatively frequently. Which AWS teams are you hearing from?
I prefer to not disclose this information.
Are layoffs at OCI that common? When asked a couple of people who work there I got the impression that the last big layoff they had was when they merged the classic cloud with OCI.
How is it at Oracle? They reached out to me last week.
On my side, I simply love it. Talented, smart, humble people. Everybody is really nice. The new company mission is helping people; so really far from the initial view I had on Oracle. The only down side is the amount of work, people are working like crazy, the pace can be difficult at start.
It depends on teams. My team is currently a shithole now. It is totally incident driven but I guess AWS could be similar. Besides, OCI is more like Oracle now so people outside would feel the people "graduated" from OCI not as smart as AWS in the near future. I would not choose either OCI or AWS.
Oracle is a far superior workplace
Are you being sarcastic? If not could you elaborate.
Just came to AWS from Oracle- they’re completely different. Oracle has lots of process, slow moving, but better WLB and people are generally friendly and collaborative. AWS pushes for constant innovation and is more aggressive but I’m learning a ton and feel like the caliber of talent is much much higher at AWS
Moved from OCI?
Yes
I can only speak to it from a user/customer perspective. I have worked for companies that use Oracle pretty extensively and they simply hate it. My current employer has made it their life’s mission to get rid of all oracle systems in the next 2 years, they’ve already gotten rid of many. The feeling is quite opposite for AWS in that regard. I have dealt with a great deal of a**holish and pretentious Oracle sales reps and account execs, on the flip side, it’s been quite opposite for AWS. This doesn’t really speak of how each of them are employer wise, I’ve been employed by Oracle in the past for merely a year and then I left; the disorganization and uncertainty got to me but it was a long time ago (8yrs ago).
