Lack of diversity in engineering division at X
Hi blind! I'm going to be dipping my feet in applying for Senior Manager roles and need some general tips for positioning my resume and current role. My current level at Instagram is M1. But I manage a 25 person team with 2 M1s under me. The reason I'm not M2 yet is because promotions at Facebook are lagging. I'll realistically make M2 either in December or definitely in summer 23. But I don't want to wait for the promotion to start interviews. Another small obstacle to overcome for me is my low YOE (6-7). Main question is how to I position my current role to recruiters and HMs TC: 700k
How long have you been managing managers?
You don't need to talk about your level. Tell what you do, it's more important. Moreover, levels mean different things at different companies
All your stories should reflect challenging situations where you operated to solve the issues at M2 level. It may be hard to have those stories already, within 6 months of operating at M2 though. Most companies want to fill a role at a given level with an experienced person, so if your stories have signals that suggest youβve been operating at M1, then you might get downlevelled depending on the company and how desperate theyβre to fill the role.
Just say you are a manager with 2 managers reporting to you. They will infer that you are m2
Thanks!
