Absurd crypto salaries

Do cypto firms really pay this highly? What’s the catch? #tech #crypto

The numbers seem pretty normal to me.

The catch is that your company can go under in 3 months

Amazon tellurideh OP Dec 12, 2023

Might be worth the risk

Google myprestige Dec 12, 2023

You’d opt into joining a company that goes under in Q1 in this market?

Pays well yes, but the catch is how relevant the startup is in the ecosystem

Amazon tellurideh OP Dec 12, 2023

Relevant enough until the next crypto winter

That's not a great benchmark buddy. There are better places to work at.

Hubspot vMIQ71 Dec 12, 2023

that’s not that much, given that the equity (or “tokens” in the last case) are completely worthless

Meta userrnam3 Dec 12, 2023

If you have capital and want to use it to create a new cryptocurrency, from scratch, what would you expect to have to pay your first/founding protocol engineer? You'd need someone who understands cryptography, consensus protocols, distributed systems, and who can write low-level performant code. And maybe you want them to show up at an office in NYC. And they need to be willing to take the risk of a job that may not still exist in six months, for tokens that may prove worthless. Personally, I wouldn't take that job for 350k. A protocol engineer could go get a job at coinbase or whatever and earn more too.

They seem like typical L5/L6 roles and comp is comparable to faang. I'm guessing equity is paper money or even more worthless crypto. Guess it is surprising they pay on par for faang but they need nieche expertise

ZK cryptographers are in high demand and require a very specialized set of skills and a lot of experience. This seems about right.
