Got laid off from my current company LinkedIn this Monday. I had a sniff that I ll be picked, so I had an offer end of last week from a late stage startup. Currently initiating a visa transfer for some mental peace and space. However, I think I can get a better offer, so planning to prep and interview. Would it be okay to continue looking for a job, even with the transfer going and approved? I plan to take my time with job hunt and hopefully not work more than 2-3 months there and then give some excuse to quit. Offered TC: ~ 220k with 15k paper money YoE: 13
can we initiate 2 simultaneous h1b transfers and i-9 verifications? looking at the current market more layoffs can happens anytime soon
I don’t know about I9. But I thought joining a company and quitting it within a month and join another at worst should be okay. Just wanted to make sure. I9 for the new company will be only after I join the second I think. Simultaneous H1s are probably okay I thought. Wanted to get some opinions here.
I ask because you mentioned you'll leave the current company soon enough. So they might have started your employment verification right? through Sterling or Hire Right or something? Can you do that for 2 employers simultaneously? for ex you get an offer in say the next 15-20 days then would it be allowed to participate in another employment verification?
if you have 15 yoe and only got a 220k tc, definitely interview more, but that takes long. Join it and then switch
Exactly my thought process. Using my 2 months time to prepare for interviews well.
@OP are you swe? Remember the market is bad. Are you prepared to leave in 60 days if you don’t find something else. Remember things slow down towards holidays. Some folks have been interviewing for more than 3 months
Were you staff at li?
Yes. Good guess!
How come staff engg at LI getting paid 220k TC? That is way too low
That’s my offered TC at the startup. It’s atleast 2x less than what I was making. Even if I manage to include paper money
He was overpaid. Welcome to the new normal. Everyone will take a 50% pay cut over zero.
Once you join the startup, any other company that files h1b transfer will need the i797 docs from that startup.
Go for it, many friends have done it. If you leave soon enough, do not put on resume. The background check only “verify” your claim to work at xyz. If you do not report it, it will not show up. Good luck.
Not illegal but unethical. $$ dictates ethics!
I want to understand the definition of ethics. When companies can layoff people affecting the livelihoods of people and play with their lives through politics, what happened to ethics then? If everyone is watching for their interests and ready to throw others under the bus, the least I can do is protect my interests.
correct. Bringing up wrong by others doesn’t make yours right. You are answerable to yourself and I am nobody to judge.
How did you figure out you would be targeted for layoffs OP ?
I was put in pre pip. Don’t want to go into a lot of details, but after Reorg, my manager and skip seem to set me up for failure by not communicating everything to me. So I knew if there’s a layoff I would be targeted
Push join date as much as you can, and find another job and go for that.
A bit risky to transfer immediately. I haven’t tried it myself so don’t know for sure. If you really get a good offer later, might as well give it a shot.
What’s the risk ?
You need few payslips for applying to next H1B
