I recently got an offer from Amazon and completed the background check. As my start date was nearing, Amazon re-triggered accurate background check. In fact 2 days before I start. Has anyone gone through this before? I’ve already given notice.
I joined Amazon as an MBA hire and had an initial background check when I accepted my offer in the fall and another right as I was starting in June. How long between the first background check and start of position? Anything criminal in the past seven years? If not, wouldn’t worry.
It’s been roughly 55 days. Nothing criminal but since I’ve already provided notice to my company, surprised that this happened
More than likely because you are bumpering against 60 days for your start date and previous background check, that is why the background check was initiated again. Should only be criminal history vs a complete check that included education/job verification this time. It happened to me at Amazon and now that I think about it, happened at another organization as well, including having to retake the drug test (biotech). There it was government regulated and had to do with insurance policies. I would imagine it could be the latter for Amazon. Good luck on your first day!
Yes. If it takes more than x days they restart bg check process. Happened to me too. And it pushed my start date forward a week or two. Now that I see same thing happening to you, I wonder if they wait until last week on purpose.
It would be a costly practice for Amazon to do this on purpose, not sure what they gain out of this. But was any reason provided to you? It’s been roughly 55 days for me
Your recruiter failed you and should have initiated 60 days prior to your start date. The fact they did it two days means they weren’t paying attention. Amazon BGC isn’t deep, as long as you haven’t had any criminal charges you’ll be fine. DUIs can pass too. They don’t verify schools or barely do reference checks.
It’s a system thing.. if your start date is after the 60 days limit, it initiates automatically. Reachout to your recruiter to see if you can move up start date or what your options are. The good news is it clears within 1-2 days, at least mine did.
Background checks are good for 60 days. Then they need to do it again. That is why.
Companies are weird about this stuff from a sequencing point of view. Candidates want this closed before they give notice, but companies want to do it in parallel to your notice period to have the earliest start date; and the companies have leverage. If you have nothing to hide, fear less. Note I didn't say fear not - mistakes do happen, but you have no choice.
this is normal
I joined as a Canadian and it took quite a long time. As a Canadian they do a USA credit check on ya, and cuz you typically don’t have any USA credit history their system hangs waiting for a response. Had to call em and escalate it cuz I was going to be put on a suspension prior to my start date. Definitely give em a call and give em the beans. They say they dont escalate and expedite their checks, but it completed 10 mins after calling them. Try that
After how long did you ping them?
Their SLA is 2 weeks I believe. I called em a week prior to my start date. When things start getting close, reach out.
It took a long time for me as well and primary reason was my county only accepts paper application for background checks so turn around time is longer
Reach out to your recruiter, it could be an error. What role?
Already did, waiting on the response
