So a lot of folks are angry that during the latest active shooter incident in downtown Seattle, Uber and Lyft charged huge amounts of 💰 to get out of downtown. The complain is that this was an emergency situation and yet the ride sharing companies charged more and such kind of predatory price increase is unacceptable. What is your take on this? #uber #lyft #ridesharing
Uber and Lyft are basically caught between a rock and a hard place. The media / public basically expects the companies to eat the cost every time there's a disaster and provide extra subsidized service while literally zero other private company pitches in a dime. To all those voting that the companies refund the surge fees - should the companies also claw back the surge bonuses to the drivers? SMH
Agree
I’m fine with it if all of the surplus goes to the driver. Driver is taking a huge risk in such situations. Anyway, Uber/Lyft are refunding these surcharges.
They show the price upfront to avoid this...how does this happen
The results of this poll are amazing. People support NRA, vote for Trump and when a psychopath shoots people using those guns, they expect Uber, Lyft to stop the surge pricing, and deny the drivers, who by the way, are risking their lives, the earnings. If I were in that situation, not only I'd happily pay the surge pricing, I'll also tip my driver extremely generously.
No, no, if U and L actually deny drivers surge pay, too few cars will show up, and we'll get bashed for being unreliable transportation providers or some crap like that.
@uber, these days Google maps shows things like active shooter spots. So the tech is available. Why not add these to the app and alert drivers and passangers, and then compensate drivers more if they show up and give passangers the option to a mandatory fee if the driver so chooses to respond, since he is taking a risk.
Surge is a way to reduce scarcity. Would people prefer not finding a driver at all?
If only there were some way to move oneself besides hailing an Uber or Lyft...
As long as Uber/Lyft don't get a cut on the surge, I'm fine. It should all go to the driver.
Its supply & demand, I don't see the problem. Good luck calling a cab
When you are a consumer-facing company, the smart idea is to eat the cost. It actually puts potentially unknowing drivers at risk to drive into a dangerous situation and I’m sure is contrary to what first responders want.
The spelling/grammar in this post...
I know, while typing the poll, it scrolls in one line of text. Hard to read the entire sentence before posting, and after one posts, they can't edit the poll.
