I recently got an offer from Southwest Airlines. And they are offering 120K base salary. The recruiter told me over the phone while giving the offer that's the max they can offer for this role. I didnt negotiate yet? Do you think should I negotiate? If I do, how can I convince him for better pay? Also hows the company culture and other benefits. Updated Status: I have tried negotiating atleast 10K in base salary but they only raised 2K more and also provided 2K sign on bonus. Is this sufficient? Now I am thinking to accept the offer because it doesnt look back and forth to negotiate. Current TC: 71K Offer: 120K Base (without benefits) New Offer: 122K Base New added sign on/relocation: 2K Change Percentage: 68% #offer #negotiateoffer #southwestairlines
what position? yoe? note that airlines are notorious for paying low(since you get flight benefits) source: used to work for a big 3 US carrier
Can’t agree more. I used to work for one of them 😅
3.5 year US and overseas 5 years Data domain My current TC 71K in Tech industry. Its 70% raised jump almlost
Congrats on the TC increase that’s huge! And yes even if they say it’s the max always negotiate! They may still say no but that’s okay, atleast you tried! Live with no regrets mainly so you don’t think about the “what if”
Yea thats what I was thinking. Can you give me some idea how to negotiate. I am not good at it

Take the offer, maybe ask for a sign on bonus usually companies are fine giving this

Well i personally would ask for more. - bonus -stock Technically since they have employees in Colorado they should be posting career bands. I don’t know role or yoe but in principal I’d never be happy with first Most recent negation i went up10k base and stock +40k from their first dollar
Can you suggest some idea how to negotiate? They didn't provide any sign on bonus neither relocation assistance?
https://youtu.be/FcNUkCG-MWM Be very gracious about how exited you are - can’t wait to join. Not sure if you said any comp stuff so far. They sound firm on salary (mine did too). Maybe say expenses in moving and walking away from a bonus blah blah blah Is there an opportunity to help with that? I did that and they said they couldn’t do sign on but bumped me 10k on there already top of line salary
Culture is fantastic. They’ll never hesitate to fly you out to Dallas for company events. Remote friendly anywhere in the US. You get free standby flights which is awesome, but honestly it’s not as easy as it sounds. Feel free to send a chat if you have any questions.
I just dropped some messages in your inbox. Please respond at your earliest convienence
Are they still remote friendly or are they moving to hybrid/requiring office face time?
Feel free to message me also if you have questions. I was able to negotiate about 10k more. The culture and benefits are great. 9.3% 401k match, profit sharing which can be as high as 16% of your salary if we profit well, which we be profiled every year except 2020 because covid. Insurance is great too.

Was there 9 years - 16% is an extreme exception, not the norm, so I would estimate closer 7%. It’s still a nice perk to have but don’t base your decision on that alone. Standard YoY salary increase is 3% and as an individual contributor (based on your YOE) you’ll likely get a 1.5% cash bonus too in April every year
Southwest has a reputation of under paying.
Do you work there
I know a handful of people that work there and if you aren't in Technology, the pay has, historically at least, been under market. They inflate the value of flying standby.
YOE and title ?

I had 4 years overseas exp and 2 years US exp when i switched to a big 3 airline 5 years ago. I was offered 105K TC which was 40% hike. I now make more than double that. Flight benefits are very good if you can get seats apart from that hikes are less and hardly any bonus.
